Question Muting with 4th finger?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi! Sorry if this is a dumb noob question. But does anyone use the pinky on the pluck hand to mute the D string when playing the G string? That is, on a 4-string bass, have 1+2 plucking G, thumb muting E and 3rd muting A (as per studybass.com), and 4th muting D. Or are there more commonly used techniques for muting the three lower strings?

I use the pinky all the time to mute the string I'm playing.. it's the most efficient and variable mute control.
