Muting Problems

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been playing for about 1.5 years and I'm having trouble with muted notes. I have to use at least 2 fingers on the string to get a dead note. With 1 finger all I get is a harmonic. Does anyone know why this i? If so, how can I fix it?

Because any time you stop a string at a node a la 1 finger muting it will create a harmonic. That's just how strings work. The only way to avoid that is touch the string at more than one place.

What he said. Practice muting with 2+ fingers and all will be fine.

Alright thanks. I just use 2 anyways, but I just wanted to make sure there was't an easier way.
