Is my action too high?

Tried searching and couldn't really find a good answer, so here goes:

I've been working on cleaning up my slap technique a lot lately. I've noticed that sometimes when I try to do a palm mute/tap with my left hand, instead of a nice, clean "click" it sounds more like a hammer on. Is it because my action is too high?

That's hard to say..you need to mute with your right hand also..

Think of it like the hammer of a piano striking the string..when you let up on the note ..the mute kicks in..

Thanks for the input. One thing that has helped is slowing down my playing and speeding up my attack.

Guess I just need to keep working on it.
