My mwah is too slow

I’m hoping someone out there will know the secret to this.

I recently converted my bass to fretless. It sounds great and the mwah is nice and pronounced, but it’s too long for my taste. I’d like the swell to be quicker. I’ve tried adjusting the action, but that reduces the mwah, it does not seem to shorten the swell.
It is an unfinished rosewood board and I use flats.
I’ve posted this in the setup and technique forums since I don’t know what approach to take.

Anybody got any ideas?

What area do you attack the strings with your right hand? (assuming that you're right handed). Near the neck? In the middle? Near the bridge?

You need to play higher up on the neck. Rather than C on 3rd fret of the A string play it up on the 8th fret of the E string. The shortened string length speaks faster.

To answer both posts above:
-When I want the mwah to really be heard I finger at the base of the neck, when I want to minimize it I play near the bridge pickup
-Usually, I'm trying to get mwah when playing higher notes and typically play them around 'frets' 8-14

Another possible factor is that I use Cromes, they are a heavier guage than other flats from what I understand, maybe it takes them a little longer to 'settle down'.
