My right hand resting is... weird?

Is it stupid to rest your right only on your thumb?
Cant really explain but when i want more speed and
accuracy then i move my hand from lying flat over the
pickup to "stand up".. it looks pretty stupid like i only
have 4fingers or something.

Is there anyone more who plays like this?

And is there any disadvantages?

What you're describing sounds pretty normal to me...

My base position for regular playing is with my thumb resting on the side of the pick-up closest to the fretboard.

Depends on what I want my bass to sound like, the closer to the neck I am the closer my palm stays to the strings. When I'm playing below my second soapbar my hand is pretty much floating.
