My slap technique.

Well, im a bit worried because when i play slap bass i face my hand down. Whilst most professionals use the "thumbs up" method, my thumb faces towards the ground.

Now some techniques like double popping is done with the thumbs up method. Will my style hinder me from improving on my slap bass? I play mostly fingerstyle, but i want to be versatile.

I hope you understand what i mean.

Any help will do, thankyou!

Lewis.

I find that if you put your thumb parallel with the string (thumbs up i guess) the attack is much more precise and a bit meatier. You might be able to make it work for you but it may be harder than doing it what most people do it like.

i used to play thumb down when i slapped but i slowly converted to playing with my thumb parellel to the string. it isnt easy changing your technique but if you start slow, very slow, and slowly build it up soon yoU will be able to play both techniques. i use both depending on which song or sound i want. it is handy having the choice!

I use both all the time for different things, u get different sounds from each, but the others are right in a sense, you should learn parallel also.
Use all.
