Natural lefty playing right-hand guitar...plucking is slow

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a beginner bassist (playing for about 7 or 8 months) and for some reason right-handed guitars and basses feel natural to me even though I am a lefty.

Yesterday I tried to cover Freewill by Rush and although it isn't a fast song, there are some pretty quick bass fills here and there. Some of them were too quick for my fingers. I later did a pluck motion in the air with my left-hand fingers and my right hand fingers and my left hand is much faster. How can I improve my right hand for speed?

I am a lefty playing right handed too. I found no easy answer. You just have to practice over and over. Play scales, arpeggios and grooves with a metronome and gradually increase the speed. Slapping is a whole other pain in the butt. The nice thing about being a lefty playing this way is that you can get around the fretboard easily. At least it's that way for me.

I agree, going up the fretboard is pretty fluid for me. My pinky is extremely weak, though

'm also a natural lefty playing righty. You will have to spend a lot of time working on right hand techniques, start slow and accurate and work your way up to speed and dexterity.
