Neck Bending

Sign in to disble this ad
To bend notes, one of my guitarist friends plays the note, pushes down on the body with his right hand towards him and pushes away on the neck with his left hand to bend the note and get a whammy-bar effect. I just found that I can do this with even more effect on a bass. How bad is it for the neck?

probably not the greatest, i have a grafite bass i've never done it on, I do it to my regular bass (Schecter) pretty frequently with no obbvious repurcussions, but i also keep her in good repair

It's not bad for it at all, as long as you're not trying to push the neck off the bass. It doesn't take much pressure to change the pictch. I do it all the time.

on a cheaper bolton bass the nect joint will start to loosen beyond repair if you are doing this on a regular basis. this is an extreme example of overdoing it.
