Is Neck Bending Bas For The Neck??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello fellow TBers

I've seen Billy Sheehan do it, and now I use it to bend harmonics that are not distorted. Is neck bending bad for the neck, will it break/damage the neck or truss rod?

If you do it too hard/often it can be very bad. I do it too, and as long as you keep it in moderation it's OK.

done in moderation it shouldn't do any harm. as long as you're not bending it past what it can take. i would imagine you would probably know if you bent it too far....

That sure would be embarrassing snapping the bass in half during a show, though.

Hehe.

Billy rules.

I tried neck bending on my wishbass and the thing would just NOT MOVE! seriously..

as a rule, I don't neck bend...strings bend a lot easier than necks and are a whole lot cheaper...don't bend your neck...bend your strings...

But string bends only go up in pitch. Sometimes it's nice to end a song by doubling the sound of light tremolo use by the guitarist.

You can always start the note bent up... if you have lighter strings you can bend especially far. I know it's not the same thing as the neck bend, but it's better than nothing.

Kahler reintroduced their bass tremolos. http://www.24stgeorge.com/gear/kahler_returns.html You could always just get one of those to accomplish much the same thing.

Yeah you don't want to damage the truss rod...
