Neck Diving Jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
I know you're not supposed to anchor your forearm, of the plucking hand, unto the body of your bass, but everytime I try to play properly(with my forearm lifted), the neck tends to dive downwards. I play a fender jazz, does anyone else have this problem?

maybe it's the strap i use, i've got a levy's, leather, it's rougher on the inside, but then i guess it shouldn't be as slippery as other straps, made of nylon, cotton or whatever. or perhaps i have the neck at a wrong angle or something, i usually play with the head above my shoulders, because it's easier for fretting at lower positions.

are you very tall or very short?

build/height seems to affect neckdive a lot

I can play a thunderbird and not have neck dive, but if my guitarist puts it on the headstock touches the ground

I'm 185cm, that's roughly 6 feet. That's not very tall, is it?

Some bass bodys are light. I have neck-dive on my bass as well. I have tried some basses at the store that were more balanced.

When I am not playing and not holding my fretting hand, it dives. When I play I use my fretting hand and my right arm to balance it. It may be wrong but it's my bass, and I can afford to get a better one right now.
