Necrophagist Tapping

My goal is to be able to tap the bass solo in the Necrophagist song "Stabwound". The riffs in the song are just a matter of woodshedding but the solo is so technical that my fingers can't even keep up at 1/4 the tempo of the song. The solo is about 35 seconds into the song if you want to check it out.

Is there a song that I should try that should get my tapping fingers into the right technique? How many fingers on my right hand should I be using? Has this solo ever been tabbed for 6 sting bass?

If you don't know how to tap fast like fimmers does, then try tapping sweep patterns slowly. tap down pretty hard but not hard enough to make it slow.

If I'm not mistaken, the bass tapping is the exact same riff as the guitar tapping passage that follows it, listen carefully. Just find a trusty guitar tab and transpose it to bass.

I think he's got the notes down, just not the technique.

Oh....well in that case its easy.

Learn the Stabwound riff and do it against a metronome to a slow speed. Once you get it down at a lower bpm, start raising the tempo. Bam, two birds...

I've had the same problem, I've been trying to learn Fermented Offal Discharge of the "Onset of Putrefication". The whole song so much hard as it is fast. As far as the tapping it's just 1 pattern but the tempo kicks up like crazy.

I've been working on it really slow, so my personal advice: try to find the most comfortable/efficient way to play it and take you're time because whats the point of learning a half-a$$'d version right?

And keep in mind Stephan Fimmers is a monster, so don't get discouraged.

if you cant play it at 1/4 speed, try it at 1/8 or 1/16.

This thread has inspired me to finally learn "Only Ash Remains" by Necrophagist and though it doesn't seem too hard, getting it up to speed is gonna be a B****! Tapping finger is already sore as hell. BTW this is my first foray into the realm of insane death metal tapping, always been too intimidated by the speeds.

It's a basic pentatonic scale, just lighting fast.
I don't think you can make up for lack of technique to play something like that.
It's one of these licks that you have to practice over and over again until it pretty much plays by itself. I can't think of a magic trick.
First make sure you have the notes rights and play super slow. Then slowly speed up as you progress.
You need to set your strings low and use a fair amount of compression to compensate for the lack of dynamics. Cut lows a bit to gain clarity.
