| Don't just jump in and play as fast as you can and then get frustrated when you lose time or get tired. As your general technique gets better, you will get faster. One thing you can do to work some speed training into your practice is to work with a metronome. Start where your comfortable and just play basic rythms 8ths, swing 8ths, triplets, etc. Each day speed up the metronome by few beats per minute. This will make you faster, improve your time, subvisions, and technique all at the same time. Just be patient. You don't even have to buy a metronome, there are plenty of free ones available on the web.
Since your un upright player, I would also advise you to think about how hard or loud you are playing and how much you are moving your fingers. If you play softer your movements will be shorter and more efficient, and therefore faster. Unlike upright where you are tought to really dig in.
