Need help (bass scales)

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been playing in a rock band now for 5-6 months, we play a bit of "new" classic Blues rock (sounds like Deep purple), i have always wanted to create some cool bass lines... few notes when we change chords etc

I always end up by using the blues scale or pentatonic scale, nothing else.

What scales do you recommand other than the Blues/Pentatonic/major/minor ? are there any other cool scales which whould be cool to play with in blues rock band?

With a lot of blues, there are Dominant 7th chords coming out your ears.
So, on any Dominant 7th chord, you can play a Mixolydian.
(1 2 3 4 5 6 b7 8)
Or, if it's a fast blues, you can play a dominant bebop
(1 2 3 4 5 6 b7 7 8)
it's an 8 note scale, with a b7 and natural 7. really cool.

I'd say just fool around with it and feel your bass lines more than try to calculate them using scales and whatnot. I mean sure, they'll help, but if all your bass lines sound good based off of the blues scale, then why not?
