need help cleaning up my double popping

Sign in to disble this ad
hey!

i recently started practicing double thumping after watching the norm stockton instructional videos.

the double thumping is fine but when i double pop or pop on the same string. i cant seem to get my fingers to fall straight in between the strings without my nails hitting the string below and making a scratching noise and it's VERY VERy annoying.

i can do the double popping n everything but it's really just the nail to string noise that really bugs me. any help? i actually thought of putting some sort of tape on my finger nails to eliminate the noise but i thought that there must be some other way to do it. i';ve been watching the norm stockton and wooten dvds over n over again just to try to find out how they do it but can't seem to figure it out.

help!!!

thanks

vic

you need to trim the nails short and build up a callous. Until you have a big callous, you'll have to put up with some fingernail or painful fingers if you trim your nails back until they don't hit the strings. Tape will be counter-productive in this regard. Once your callouses build up (2-3 months), you won't hit the nails any more unless your nails get sloppy long.

oh dude. my nails are as short as can be... and i do have very thick callouses from regular slapping which i've been doing quite a while now. thanks though...

the tough part really is to get my index and middle finger in between the strings enough so that the nails dont hit but then i do have long finger nails. long meaning including the skin under it and not... wait it's kind of hard to explain. but you know wootens finger nails are really really short? mine arent. the only way i can copy the length of his finger nails is to cut my finger nails in half...

just practice it slow man, finger nail length isn't the problem, you just need to practice it.
