Sign in to disble this ad
Hey!

I've started listening to victor wooten and his technique is.. .. you know.

my question about the double thumb technique is with what part of my thumb do I pluck the string upwards? (downwards I got under control) (1) with the thumb's nail or (2) with the skin near the nail (added picture)

thanks, Daco (not Jaco)

I don't have a double jointed thumb so its very hard for me to get the contact near the nail. My contact is at 2 going towards the knuckle. As log as you bring your thumb through you will get a solid sound.

DOuble thumb is hard but Ive just about got it down. Trying to utilize left hand slaps with the double thumb now. I can't get the pop with the double slap on the same string at all though.

Practice Practice....

I really don't see how it would be possible not to get a little bit of nail hooking the string. So I just make use of this; I'm probably between 1 and 2, but a little closer to the 1.

What is really hard is getting the downstrokes and upstrokes to sound the same. A good way to tell is to do triplets of the same note over and over. The first is DUD (down up down), then UDU, and it keeps alternating. The goal is for the DUD's to sound exactly like the UDU's. Some may disagree but I can only get this we using a fair bit of force on the down's.

Well, hope you have better luck with it than me!
