Need help with an original slap solo

Sign in to disble this ad
My school's jazz band got a new chart, a funk song, and the director wants me to play a bass solo. This being funk, I wanted to try a slap solo. The problem is, I can't come up with more than two measures of stuff. What are some things I can do to link the little bits together? The song is a 12-bar blues progression in Bb, funk style straight 8s.

Thanks for any help.

Check out bass solos by Louis Johnson, of the Brothers Johnson, to get some ideas.
