Need help with picking or just walking faster

Okay so I know how to play knights of cydonia but I can't play it up to speed. If I play with my fingers I hit the notes but eventually lag out. If I play with a pick, idk i just can't pick with a pick that fast without hitting the other strings. Help? Obviously i need something to help me with speed, ideas?

Which bit are you talking about? The outro riff?

The only tip I have for getting faster fingers is practicing. It will come eventually. Same for hitting other strings with your plectrum. Practice makes perfect.

just the song in general, the part after the intro more specifically though.

For the gallop part, I'd either recommend 3 finger technique (which makes galloping really easy IMO) oder just plain practicing... As Noj said, it'll come eventually.

Use a metronome, but that's a no-brainer I guess.

For the gallop bit, Chris actually does use a plectrum, so I would do that.

I would like to get the song down using both techniques. So just use three finger sweeps?

For the Picking do the same pattern for each group of three (down up down is what I would do) and anchor your hand on the bridge (or near it) and then minimize right hand motion. This will help you hit only one string... think less about strumming and more about just pounding that one note

play "lighter" with your fingers (don't dig into your strings so much)
turn up your amp
you'll play faster

^This. You want to make sure you can use as little effort in your right hand as you can to make sound.
