Need to wane my Chilis addiction!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I'm a huge Chili Peppers fan. Flea is a god to me. I have all their albums and I pretty much listen to them exclusively. Like, throughout the day, 75% of what I listen to will be the chilis. I need some other good bands to listen to so I can get some other influences! I can't seem to find anything I really connect with as much as I do with the chilis.

My question is, if I like the chilis, what other bands and bass players will I like? I need to expand! If I don't start getting some other influences, I'm going to be nothing but a Flea clone.

Thanks for any input.

PS Please don't recommend the arctic monkeys

Rage Against The Machine? It's sort of similar if you don't mind the overtly political lyrics...

I guess I'm looking for other funk ROCK bands. Sleazy, dirty basslines are a plus too. I listen to some good funk like George Clinton, Sly & Stone, and Average White Band but they just don't pack enough oomph for me.

Yes, rage is really good. But something is missing with them.

Rage are my second favourite band to Chilis. Get all rage albums, Tim Commerford is the hard playing bassist you need judging by your sly stone, Clinton comment. Audioslave lack what Rage has in my opinion. If you want to explore outside funk go buy a copy of "train of thought" by Dream Theater. Great melodic metal band. And you can't go past Zeppelin.

also have a look at Jamiroqui, not all the stuff is up there but still some cool grooves.

Incubus
Muse
Papa Roach
Korn

Try really really hard to get into Zeppelin. It's hard for some people, but you must. JPJ has some of the sweetest basslines ever.

Living Colour- "Pride" (a compilation). IMO, the best funky rock band of the past two decades.

Aerosmith- "Toys in the Attic" and "Rocks"

Rolling Stones- "Made in the Shade" (early 70's compilation)

Jimi Hendrix- "Are You Experienced" and "Electric Ladyland"

Try some old school funk. Kool & the gang is good, Herbie Hancock, Headhunters, P-funk, Brothers Johnson, its all pretty good, and very funky.

Primus is a must. Maybe some rush. Infectious grooves.
