I'm trying to learn this Vandross hit.

I'm SO surprised that this isn't on youtube. Its slap, but does anyone have any clues on this? A video I haven't found for instance?

I think Marcus Miller may have been playing on the track. Marcus did play on some of Vandross' other CD's.

I get nothing from watching someone else play. It's just a "learning mode" thing. I have to see it from my side of the neck.

I have taken to transcribing using the MP-BT1 bass trainer, setting the track to half-speed, and looping as necessary. In my opinion, this helps on several levels.

First, I have to get the notes, think about the rhythmic figuring. Then, I have to think about position on the neck, how it should be played.

Finally, it helps with general ear training.

Just my two cents (not Maki's).
