So whats the best way to begin playing with 3 fingers. I think i rember my teacher saying that you should start on the 3rd finger and go backwards towards the first finger...in a nut shell backwards from standard 2 finger style. What do you think?

it really does depend on how you feel. if you lead 2 fingers 1, 2 then maybe 1, 2, 3 is better for you. i also think it makes you want to do triplets less, which 3, 2, 1 seems to make me do. I use 3, 2, 1, 2 and i'm not very proficient but after a few months pratice it works ok. just take your gut instinct and work on it!

I usually just bust out the 3 finger technique when I wanna play some triplets and its quite effective to just run down from 3, 2, 1. You can get some pretty fast and even triplets that way.

I find it works well with double bass too, especially in thumb position when you're bustin out those highs =)

You can do 1-2-3, or 3-2-1. Play around.

1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2 or 3-2-1-2-3-2-1-2 is not efficient.

You end up using your 2nd finger twice as much. Count it yourself if you don't believe me.

Use a metronome and use all sorts of combinations and scales on the fretboard to get rid of the habit of doing triplets or associating 1 on right hand to 1st finger on left hand.

It just takes time, is all.
