There are no teachers, or other bass players for that matter way out here in the country. What would be the best couple of book/dvds to start with? I have heard that the Billy Sheehan beginner dvd is good. Any opinions before I start buying.

Many Thanks,

Todd Johnson's technique builders DVD would be an excellent start in terms of getting your hands to do what you want. Really useful regardless of the kind of music you'd want to play.

What kind of stuff do you want to play?

The rest is fairly dependant on that.

Ed Frieland's Hal Leonard Complete Bass Method. Great book.

It's an ok DVD, but it doesn't teach too much.

My favorites are "Contemporary Electric Bass" by Nathan East, which explains pretty much everything you need to start playing bass with "style" and "Elctric Bass volume 1" by John Patitucci, which starts from playing scales, metronome prcatice ecc..plus has some groove exemples played with Dave Weckl and also some solo performances by JP....
