Noobie asks: where to put thumb for playing E on Jazz bass

All the instructions i see for placing your 'moveable' thumb are for using what looks like a Precision bass where the pickup is closer to the neck and is more convenient for a thumb rest. My Jazz pickups are closer to the bridge where it is less comfortable to anchor on pickup while fingering on the E string.

You wont have to place your thumb anywhere with this technique. There is a sticky about it ("Floating Thumb" ) at the top of the forum. Here is a link to a You Tube clip of it :
