Back about 13 years ago [ominous music], I managed to break 2 of my fingers and shatter one. It was stupid, and i totally made it worse by not doing the phisio exercises like I should have. My index and middle (thank god ) fingers are fine, but my ring finger on my pluckin hand (sounds dirty...) was the one that was shattered and is now slightly gimpped from not doing the exercises. Man was I young and stupid.... Anyways as a result the tip knuckle is doesnt extend all the way straight on its own and the other knuckle extends a little to far. I might take a pic if someones interested and post it. It looks pretty sickly...

Thing is, miraculously Im able to get a fairly even tone out of it, even tho i cant whack the string as hard as i can with my index or middle finger. Im hoping with practice itll be stronger. After a little while of practicing using 3 fingers to pluck tho, the damn finger doesnt seem to want to obey me.

Is this a commen occurence when starting to use 3 fingers?

Totally normal

(given my extensive sample of 1 - me).

That third finger jsut doesn't want to play. I'm still not up to speed, but I'm getting there.

For me RMI RMI RMI works best, but some go IMR - your call.

Either way a "gallop" (Any Iron Maiden) is the easist pattern. Single note duh-duh-dum pattern. Get your fingers moving, without worrying about the left hand.

Then you need to work on getting the even. I basically practise this at gigs... When ever I get an 8th note pedaling type song I would throw in a few bars of three fingers. After about a year I noticed I was doing it without realising (one time when I was singing!!! That was a break through). It takes a LONG time to break the old habbits.

Now I need to start playing left hand riffs with three finger right hand.

I'm sure you could progress faster if it was a priority, but it's a long journey.

im glad its normal.

I really regret not taking 5 mins out of my day to do the physio stuff. Man was I dumb.

Oh, and i find RMI feels more natural. Well, until i get screwed up or whatnot.
