Noticed something on my 4005e

When I play right on the fret, it will still sound the note but the note will sound a little more quiet and bass like. I can't really explain it.

Is this a known technique or just the sign of a good setup? My other basses fail at that.

That happens on every bass I've ever owned.

It's because your flesh is actually muffling the sound some, because some is touching the string on the vibrating side of the fret.
