I'm 55 and have been playing 6 string acc and/or electric for 44 years. I've been using a pick for 44 years!
Our church built a new campus and the praise band leader there asked me if I could play bass for the band. I accepted the challenge and bought a bass guitar. After using a pick for 44 years I am now trying to learn to play without one. Does anybody play a bass with a pick and do they make picks especially designed for the bass guitar?

Yes many bass players play using a pick. Bass picks are usually a lot thicker than a guitar pick. You get a different sound opposed to plucking when you use a pick. It depends on what you prefer, but yes its ok to use a pick .

Although fingerstyle is the norm, many folks use a pick. I do occasionally when I want a specific sound.

Just use guitar picks - I recommend the heaviest you can find as it gives you more control.

lots of people play bass with a pick, and some of us are pretty damn good with one... it's not just 8th note root rock plodders who wield the mighty pick

there aren't picks specially designed for bass, but bass players tend on average to use slightly heavier picks than their guitar-playing cousins...

I use 0.8 and 0.9mm... I mean, I use 0.9, but today I used 0.8 and I might use those from now on

I use a 2mm pick. Big and easy to hold.
