Number Method?

Sign in to disble this ad
I met a guy today at work that said he played bass. We talked for a few and he mentioned a couple of times that he had originally learned a number method that helped him play. I didn't get clarification from him as to exactly what he was talking about. Seems like he was talking about some type of method that allowed him to play in key without actually knowing music. Does anyone know what the heck this guy was talking about?

It's called tablature - or tab for short.

I've never heard of it referred to as the Nasville Number System, but I've seen this type of thing in plenty of method books; they often use roman numerals. Something like: Ima7, IIm7, etcetera.

Yeah, sounds like he was talking about Nashville numbering. It's the business, the balls AND the taint. Anyone else start using .5s for notes in between the key tones, or is that just me?
