Officially cannot pop the A/D string without......

The back of my finger (i.e. the hard fingernail) tapping against the string below it..i.e popping D i tap the G, popping A i tap the D, etc.and it makes a horrible sounding click, like you would expect if you were thumping with your fingernail ( )

I have extremely tiny hands, but i play an extremely narrow spaced warwick......and if i turn my finger perpendicular to the string and push it through them it makes the string on each side move, in other words my finger is much wider than the string spacing....is what in the world should i try and do? I can manage to not tap against every now and then, but only when i play reaaaaaaly slowly, if i have any speed it doesnt work. What's wrong here?

I remember having the same problem. I also was playing Warwick 5-string(Streamer). One thing to do is keep practicing, especially at the slower speed. Also, Try practicing slapping and popping on the same string. I felt this really allowed me to be more comfortable with the technique.

It sounds like you just need to put in time doing the technique at the slower speed and gradually speed it up. My guess is that you're making too big of a move at higher speeds. At slower speeds, you're doing more of a straight line with your finger. It just goes straight under the string and pops it. When you speed up, you're doing more of a looping move with your finger to try to hook the string you're popping. Can't be sure without seeing a video or something, but that's my guess.
