the one fingered revelation

last week while i work i received a nasty cut on the pad of my second finger on my left hand (im a lefty)
At band practise today the cut still hadn't healed so i was plucking with just one finger.
the difference in my playing shocked me!!
with only one finger i had to think so much more about which notes to play during fills. the result of this was fewer notes...but those notes i chose felt like they had more impact on the song.

has anyone else had a similar experience where they have been forced to change their technique for whatever reason and noticed such an instant positive change?

Sure.
Bein forced to "make do" can lead to quite "enlightening" results.

i had a massive piece of skin torn off of my pointer finger on my right hand (in a bizarre bus seat incidednt involving an immature classmate and a french horn case), right where i had a calouse built up from playing a few months ago. i was irritated at first, but then i learned to compensate by building up the muscle in my ring finger so i could still pluck with 2 fingers. now that my finger is healed, i can play 3-finger runs alot better than before. theyve actually become an integral part of my writing style

I broke my hand and just played with my fretting hand. My fretting hand is alot stronger now. So breaking my hand actually helped my playing.

Sometimes i log into TB for the thread titles alone.

I hope my mind stays in the gutter as long as possible

To the OP, i broke my hand on the second day of a 2 month tour. I just taped my pinky to my ring finger and taped a pick between my thumb and pointer finger. I ues to play with lots of wrist movement but since that was a no go i played with almost all shoulder and elbow movement trying to keep my wrist ast steady as possible. It wasn't optimal, but even now i still find myself using my shoulder and elbow way more than i did before hand(lol pun).
