So John Cooper from Skillet is my Hero (excuse the pun). I never knew Christian music could rock so hard. So I started to try to learn his music. I was looking for some bass covers on youtube, but a lot of bassist are adding in WAAAAAY more then what is actually is in the song (why do they do that). I plan on singing and play and doing those complicated playing and singing just is not possible (at least for me at my level). Eventually, I found a string of videos of John Cooper playing live where the bass part comes out VERY well, better then any instrument.
So I am watching and listening and at one point I see him directing the audio guys with his right hand. At the same time, the bass line is going on as normal. So I thought "Oh, my gosh, he's finger syncing (like lip syncing)." But then I noticed he was doing this weird clapping thing with his left hand on the neck of his bass. And it appears that it was on time with the bass line. 4:12 of the video is a GOOD shot of him doing that clapping thing. So I thought it was some kind of cool trick. But then during the solo, he puts BOTH hands up and I still here a bass line? I can't tell if the note is sustaing and the bass drum makes it seem like seperate notes or there is someone in the back or something playing.
Can some one review the video and tell me if he is fake playing or he is really playing with one hand. And if he is...how in the world do you do that?
