After watching that, I was wondering... where did the standard two-finger plucking method originate? Was it really from flamenco guitar? If so, are Bass guitar and flamenco guitar techniques interchangeable?

Might be from Upright bass, or Jaco or something, 'spose.

It'd have to be a derivative of DB technique. As has been said the "Fender" bass was designed by Leo for guitarists to play(with the thumb). Hence the "Tug Bar" on the bottom.

But when you have dedicated bass players switching to electric from DB, that's the technique they used.

God Bless, Ray

I have no idea how it started, but I've read stories about how Entwistle "learned" it from a bass player who only used his index fiinger. Said bassists asked Entwistle how he learned to play with two fingers. JAE said that he saw this player do it at a previous show. This guy said that he doesn't play with two fingers, only his index finger. Then he remembered had having a blister on his finger that night and was using his middle finger to relieve stress on his index finger....

It's from the double bass.
