Pain in the Finger

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all. I dunno if this has been posted before, so im sorry if it has been. The thing is my index finger of the picking hand has started hurting all of a sudden. i play fingerstyle metal usually upto 180bpm (two finger picking). This problem with my right hand started about a week back when i started playing again with my band after 3 months. we have a gig tomorrow and i dont wanna end up injuring my finger before the gig or anything. My string gauge is .105-.85-.65-.45 and tuned 1 step down with a 34" scale bass.
we have a gig tomorrow and i dont wanna end up injuring my index finger before the gig. I'm also getting worried cuz i never had this type of pain in my finger before. and i didnt do anything different when i was playing then.

is there anything i can do to make the pain go away and the playing easier?

You play metal. Get over it.

but on a serious note, by pain, do you mean pain on the fingertip or the finger itself? If it's on the fingertip, there's not much you can do, if it's on the finger itself, i'd take it easy. Continue playing, but take it easy.

And take aspirin (or some other pain killer with either acetyl salicylic acid, ibuprofen or diclofenac). They're all anti-inflammatory, and a ten day regimen coupled with taking it easy is often what's needed.

Then there's the usual advice about trying to keep the wrist straight.

Because playing with a limp-wrist is totally not metal \m/
