Paolo Gregoletto's technique

No cracks about Trivium

So I read his page on Wikipedia and it describes a little about his technique.

From Wikipedia:
In an interview with Bass Guitar Magazine (July/August) Paulo reveals that he uses a variety of techniques to perform his bass-lines, as is typical of modern bassists. While he primarily uses a pick to perform the rapid plucking of his bottom strings necessary to compete with the double kick drumming of Travis Smith, he frequently adopts a two fingered plucking style to pick out the more elegant counter melodies and rapid pentatonic accompaniments necessary for some of Trivium's material. He will also frequently use a modern three fingered plucking style, as favored by Billy Sheehan, in order to achieve a gallop rhythm (two 16ths and one 8th) in the style of Iron Maiden's Steve Harris. In the same article he reveals that his preferable way to warm up is by performing chromatic exercises up and down the whole neck of the bass, using both fingers and a pick.

So I don't understand. All the pics of him I see him using fingers.
So he uses a pick on the fast parts and just toss it aside when doing the slow/melodic stuff?
And can somebody explain to me his technique in detail?

Thanks.

And oh, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paolo_Gregoletto
What bass is he holding? Looks shweet!

I really dont see whats special? Pick for faster stuff. Fingers when he can, 3 for gallop. I wouldnt call that a "wide variety".

Never seen him but I can speak to my own use of multiple techniques.

I keep my pick stuck behind the bridge of my seven string. I can grab it use it and put it back very quickly which allows me to switch back and forth between floating thumb based finger style, slap and pop, and flat picking. I have also been known to store the pick between my right ring finger and pinky if I am switching a lot within a tune. Usually on stuff where I am not using index, middle and ring three finger technique.

You should check out how Jauqo III-X uses a pick in conjuction with finger and slap. I believe he has a video posted here showing an example.
