Back when I used picks, I would use Dunlop Tortex .60mm picks.

Dunlop 1mm nylons. The black ones.

Black means "punk."

Dunlop Nylon .88's. Not so punk. Not so funk. Just the way I likes it.

big and thick (dunlop 1.5mm triangular)

I’m largely a finger style player but I do use Dunlop triangular 1.5 mm picks on occasion. Not only are they thick but they are big picks so you can get a good grip.

Picks are cheap so buy several all in differen guauages and see for yourself.

The worst mistake a newbie picker can make is trying to play an advanced pick piece liek "Roundabout". Start with easy stuff.

I find that a hard rock bass line that has repetitive 8th notes lends itself well for using a pick interms of its ease and desirability of that sound.

tortex, the blue one (i think 1,0mm). More hard, more tough attack, more nice sound.

i use the pick for about 1/3 of our band's set. (death metal)
mostly for overdriven parts, because in my opinion overdrive/dist. on bass sounds better with a pick.
and i use the jim dunlop usa nylon .60mm or 73.mm.

When I use picks, I tend to use the Dunlop Big Stubbies.

I sometimes use a DADI bronze pick. I mainly use a Dunlop 1.5mm or a Dava Control. The dava gets difficult when playing fast though. My favourite pick is the yellow Ernie Ball medium.

I must be weird. I split my time between Tortex .50s and Nylon .60s. I can't stand thick picks. That said, I mostly use picks for guitar. Only on bass if the song is really calling for it.

I took a pick from a recording studio once, it's grey, 1mm thick, and says "BRAIN" on it. It's been my favorite pick ever since, but I've never been able to find another one like it yet!
