I transcribe the music using Finale, which also allows you to export the files in .TIFF format. After creating the image files, I upload them to Photobucket.

Learn alternate picking

First master alternate picking everything smoothly and evenly.
Then do it however you want.
Used to be a picker. You will probably end up alternating after that and be farther ahead. IME

pick style: upstrokes and downstrokes

-----------------------------------------------
The whole point of pick playing is to use both up and down strokes.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

Try some drum Rudiments, so to hear a paradiddle play,
D U D D U D U U D U D D U D U U it can add some bounce to a line just using some basic differences of attack. Then of course do it leading with the Upstroke rather than the Downstroke.
