Picking from the shoulder?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've just spent the last hour (at least) using my thin pick, and beating my bass to death.

I've found that I can get some really good speed and "punkness" by picking from my shoulder, and sorta using my whole arm. I kept my wrist fairly loose, and found it to be quite the workout, with no pain. Well other than some soreness from not having beat my bass like that in some time

I held the pick between my index and thumb, by had my thumb almost totally covering the pick. And I just kindof let the pick downstroke/slide over the string and it required some extra attention to muting with my fretting hand.

Just wondering what the "technique gods" think.
