Picking style

I have just started to pick up a pick after playing fingerstyle for a year, I want to be proficient at both But I just played one song with a pick and my thumb hurts so bad! Am I doing it wrong? What is your picking style?

Why I keep hammering the Carol Kaye pick method

Read this thread. Go to Carol Kaye's website and Youtube and find vids of her playing bass. She also has instructions for it under her player's points, but they're a bit scattered. She also has a forum that you can sign up for where you could find the info easier. It's because of Carol Kaye that I'm still able to play with a pick when I thought I'd have to give it up.

I'm not used to playing with a thumb either & my thumb gets really sore after one or two fast songs. Luckily I'm down to 2, maybe 3 songs pick style out of the whole set.
