Picks

Hey there, new guy here. Been playing bass for maybe 9 months and smooth sailing so long, except whenever I feel the need to play with a pick. I have a few picks lying around of different sizes from my guitar and have tried each size various times, but cant ever get into a good rhythm. And if I ever do get into a rhythm I find it hard to maintain because I can't get my wrist away from resting on the bridge.

I've watched a few live shows and notice pick playing bassists playing like guitarists, raking up and down the strings, how is this possible, because this is how I'm use to getting rhythm from guitar.
