Many will argue that "real bass players don't use picks" or "the best bass players don't use picks", but there are a lot of fantastic bass players out there that do.
I grow tired of those who feel the need to bash picking...

I don't use picks at all personally, but still, the pick-bashing is getting old.

So more power to you Solarmist!

I don't use picks much myself, either, but I admire those who do, especially if they do both (and seems to me, most people who use picks can also use their fingers). It's just another way to get a new sound - in fact, the rest stroke thread supplies some useful information about how picks can be incorporated.

I have really strong fingernails trimmed fairly short and I use those in a pick-like manner.

depends on what groove you're into at the time, if it is fast punk riffs the pick will give you a clean high gain sound. if it's bluesy/rock/funk i always use fingers or slap...you just need to choose which sounds best for the sound you're trying to find. but you should never forget how to play both ways

Learn as many styles as you can ... fingers, picks, thumbs, fingernails, or anthing that you can imagine.

I usually fingerstyle it, but do on occasion use a pick if requested to, or I think it would enhance the song. Do what is most comfortable for you.

What?????? - Who was pick bashing? Did you even read the post? How could you mistake a pro-pick post for a pick bashing post??????

Next time read the post before you decide to respond

There is a sticky poll at the top of the Technique forum with over 300 responses. You should get plenty of information from that. Thread closed.
