It's just another way to get a new sound - in fact, the rest stroke thread supplies some useful information about how picks can be incorporated.
I have really strong fingernails trimmed fairly short and I use those in a pick-like manner.

| | | | depends on what groove you're into at the time, if it is fast punk riffs the pick will give you a clean high gain sound. if it's bluesy/rock/funk i always use fingers or slap...you just need to choose which sounds best for the sound you're trying to find. but you should never forget how to play both ways |
