Angry Pinky on picking hand causing "tripping"?

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright so for the past few months, I've been trying to adopt the RMIM picking style. I have my good days where everything works out with a few minor kinks here and there but on my off days, it sounds painfully sloppy at times.

Earlier, I played in front of a mirror and observed my picking hand and realized that my pinky is interfering with my ring finger, causing my ring finger to essentially "trip" and play off beat.

Right away, I thought of all the players who have the ****** picky that just wonders astray from the rest of the hand(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OKCpgzMjsE for example, not to pick on him lol) and realized that this is my best bet for fixing this problem.

Now my problem is my pinky is practically dead weight and I can't get it to stick out from the rest of my fingers and play simultaneously. I was wondering, does anyone else share the same or similar problem and have any advice for fixing it?

it seems there are a lot of players that worry about trivial points far to early in their playing lives. This is a kin to "i've been playing tennis for a year or two and have not got the technique or skills of Federer, or Golf for 5 years and i can't hit the ball like Tiger, or any similar comparison. Playing is a physical thing, what you choose to play is a mental thing, so the two must be as one to be complete. Now that process does not go side by side, one will always outweigh the other and we hope it is the mental side always in front of the physical side, in other words you always learn more and then push the playing to come up to scratch.

There are many things that can sort out a physical problem.....if there is one, and there are many things that will inhibit development, even things that may be advertised as good, or certain exercises that are supposed to help.

In short play with what you have then develop it out of need, because that is what technique is, the physical ability to play what you are thinking....not learn or develop a technique then think "what can i do with this".

Check out the links for some info that may help.
