Pino Palladino - Mini Style File Lesson

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

Check out this short video lesson i've done based on Pino Palladino's grooving and a couple of his trademark fills with D'Angelo.

http://www.johnnycopland.com/?p=132

Let me know what you think... And drop me a line if you've any requests for mini style files of other players?

happy grooving,

Johnny Copland

Cheers BassBerg,

Tried to tame the high end on the sadowsky with a bit more of the finger pads to get more of a Pino 60's Precision vibe.

Let me know if there's any other players you fancy me doing a snapshot of.

best,

Johnny

Dirk Lance ex-bassist from Incubus from his work on Make Yourself or S.C.I.E.N.C.E, maybe even Speak Free from Fungus Amongus.
or
Stefan Lessard in Dreaming Tree from Before These Crowded Streets.
or
Victor Wooten bass solo on #41 Dave Matthews Band Live in Chicago.

Johnny,
Excellent clip. Pino is one of my favorites. Wonderful tone. I would like any Paul Turner from Jamiroquai.
Thanks,
Steve

Hey jnevi9nr,

I'm a big fan of Stefan's playing. One of the main reasons I got into bass was DMB originally - will check out dreaming tree.

The Butler - Cheers, any particular Paul Turner lines you had in mind?

best,

J

Thanks for the treat. Keep 'em comin'.
PS: Did you ever get the Avalon (U5) ? Great w/ your Sad or if you fatten up w/a Sadowsky o/b pre > into the U5 (even w/ the tone bank & boost circuits not engaged) > into dbx 160a compressor (threshold @ -22, ratio @ 4:1, use hard knee & set o/p gain to match bypassed signal.I like the hotter signal of the 600 ohm balanced out on the U5 rather than the thru out > bal. in on the dbx. The unbal. out of the dbx is fine(if needed) for recording. The comp is a little tricky to play through at first, but it's TONE !!! (it really grows on you!) Try it if the stuff is lying around. Thanks again Hestan.

Thanks for the dbx tips P Bass. I got a U5 - this was recorded through the Avalon 737 though... Would love to get hold of the dbx and try that with the U5 though. Will try and get one in my rack soon.

Got a Bakithi Khumalo style file on its way later today.
