Carpal Tunnel release of left wrist complicated by previous gun shot wound (US Army), poisonous snake bite (pygmy rattler), sky diving accident (landed in an orange tree) & football injury (dislocated wrist).

He said it was a mess in there ,but two days after surgery it feels better than it has in years.

Dude, that's great! I'm glad you got a good surgeon! Maybe I'll have him do mine if I need it!

My mom has had both wrists operated on, and sometimes my wrists start to act up... Luckily, I have my basses set up to play easy.

I wouldn't have believed it if someone had told me how easy it was going to be.

Peter, could you please post a pic showing a wider area, as I can't actually make out where exactly I'm seeing.

Great to hear you've felt such relief so soon after surgery. Anybody I know who has had surgery on any limbs, have waited weeks, usually in varying levels of discomfort, and certainly unable to feel any benefits of the operation. Hopefully you can get back to playing soon and have a new lease of life in enjoying your music.

Left hand from middle of palm down to the wrist. Wrist is at the bottom of the pic. At the office now & pics are at home.

yikes, I had CTR's done on both my hands and my scars are about 3/4" long. Yours look like it is several inches long. All my friends who have had the procedure done have very large scars too, I dont know why there is such a vast difference in technique among surgeons...

I had so many people tell me not to have it done as they have lost some strength in their hands but I have all my strength back and and full use/motion of my hands. I never looked back, not even for a second!

My surgery was done at Duke so maybe that made a difference.

Hope you heal up ok, its amazing how much better it is without the pain of CT!

There are two different ways of performing the surgery. One like yours leaves a smaller scar. The other which was highly recommended for me by 3 different specialists has a larger opening. They actually had to free up both the radial and ulnar nerves on mine.

nobody told me I had an option... they just cut me.

but my friends were all jealous when I had these tiny little scars. The site stays tender for well over 6 months so dont whack it on anything, you will know it if you do!

I could not wait to get back on the bass! but take it easy, they need to heal correctly! (and do your physical therapy just like they tell you to do)

I did too until my PT told me to take it easy!

I played very lightly a few weeks after my surgery and was fine. Just dont push it.

I'll be careful. See the doc for the post op visit tomorrow. It's healing nicely.

Went to the first Post Op visit today & everything is looking great! Can even play (which I did immediately after the visit). Feels better than it has in years! He said no golf (I don't golf anyway.).

Will let the hand heal a bit before starting back on my shooting (archery).

awesome!

I would have to say the biggest annoyance out of the whole process was the stitches... they started to get really tight and itchy... so I started taking them out myself. My doctor just laughed when I went in for a check up and all my stitches were gone.

Oh-Man - How-'bout not. Keep it abstract; I'm feelin' kinda queazy already...

I'd freak. My eyes are going: I say "OK, fine - I'm getting old". ..But my HANDS?! I'd freak.

I get a little click in my right-hand, middle-finger, smallest knuckle sometimes when I play; THAT even freaks me.

Snip & pull...just don't pull the knot through the skin.

sounds easy... but pulling the head of each knot out enough to snip it hurt like hell. Like I said, they got really really tight and that was causing me some pain. I actually think the person who stitched me up was a little too happy that day, those puppies were starting to bury themselves in my skin!

Your stitches are different, mine were knotted at every stitch. Yours look like they are a continuous run. What a difference it was to make those cuts though, it was instant relief!
