playing with ashtrays

title says it all.. how to play with ashtrays over your pups and bridge.. where do you anchor? stuff like that

You mean the metal covers on older Fenders? I don't think I've ever heard them refered to as that before. Just put your thumb where ever it is most comfortable and sounds best. I guess that would usually be on the neck pickup cover with your fingers playing between the "ashtrays".

The bridge on a Fender Tele is commonly (in the UK) referred to as the ashtray.
