How is this for a crazy idea?
My thought is to sit down and the drum kit and play the kick drum and high hat while I play bass.
Should I be committed? |

Both of the ones I'm thinking of do it with guitar and drums at once, but the principal is the same. One of them has a high hat and a snare operated by the same pedal. It's a cool idea, especially if you can do it well. |

| | | I do it too sometimes when the drummer doesn't show. It really irritates the rest of the band.
It probably doesn't help that I'm not very good at it.

he made his own instrument - kind of like a metal pipe version of... well it's crazy, and involves him playing bass and drums at the same time

We were playing a gospel-esque version of I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free. I had kick/snare/hats set up, playing those (with brushes) during the head + trumpet solo/melody, and then went to chords with the kick/hats for a piano solo, and then continued the kick/hats during a bass solo.
I'm sure you could rig up some interesting stuff on an electric set if that's your thing, also. |
