Playing Nu metal songs

My boyfriend loves new metal and asked me to learn some songs by Korn and Chevelle. I am pretty certain their songs are played on 5 ers. I dont have one and may not be geting one for a while. I also dont want to modify my EB 3 with a hipshot since i hope to keep it until I find a Yamaha RBX 750 A.

(Which is the bass I had a few years ago when I sold all my gear and quit playing for a few years.)

So my question is how do you play the nu metal songs without a 5er or hipshot?

Either tune down (way down) or change the bassline, making it so that the notes you can't reach are one octave higher, so that you actually can play them.

Not the easiest solution, but it'll probably work!
