I do it sometimes, but I definitely do not ignore the frets beyond 12.

Polls sometimes take a minute or so to appear when a new thread with a poll is opened; grifff probably opened the thread before the poll was visible.

And I play around the 12th fret fairly often

***? Compared to brass instrument players, who have to struggle for years to develop high-range capability, do you have ANY idea how cool it is to to have wide-register capability if you simply pick a bass with more frets? How can you be a complete bass player without using the fat sound that obtains when you use the upper frets on your lower strings to get an even fatter, phatter sound? ***!

I usually stay below the 12th fret unless I'm playing a solo, in which case I like to use all the notes I can find. I had a solo in a piece a while ago that ranged from my open E to the second octave on my G string (24th fret).

All 24 of 'em get used regularly.

Depends on the gig of course, but yeah, those upper frets get used. Not just on the highest string, either (IME the E & B strings can really kill up around the 15th fret).

I play up there quite a bit,but usually just to get a fatter sound on swing tunes while palm muting to get an upright type tone.Never for solos, but I really don't care to take solos for the most part.

I kinda prefer to go across the strings than go up the neck, personally

Frequently - if you don't answer this, why not just have frets from 1 to 12-14 like Scott Ian of Anthrax did with his Jackson "NOT!" guitars in the late-'80s...

12+ is good for chords and fills. But I'm usually down the funky end of the board.

As the original post guy, I guess I should weigh in. As of right now, I have one song that I play above the 12th.

How can so many people dismiss that sweet sweet tone you get?
