Popping Problem

Within the last month or so I've unwound the G string on my bass at the bridge twice. Both times it was due to popping? Is their something wrong with my popping technique?

No, the problem is most likely with the bridge. Examine it for any tiny ridges or burs on the saddle, these cause stress on the string that lead to breakage/unwinding

Agreed. I used to be kinda pop-happy about 15 years ago, and the only thing I did was break some strings and get big nasty callouses on my right two fingers... I'd take a long hard look at your bridge.
