the more i try to play around on my spector, i sometimes find that i cant play it as fluidly as my four string p bass, is it normal to need a good bit of time to adapt or could it be that i just was not meant to play with more than 4 strings?

i dunno, just wondering if others have this problem when they add another string or two

Just give it time and keeping playing on it. I went through the same thing when I went from playing a Fender Jazz to my 5-String Alembic. It was the string spacing I had to get used to....

how long have you been playing it? Goin from four to five is a big transission. try different hand posistions. Each bass has its "good spot", in my opinion. If that doesnt help just wait. I don't think its possible that you weren't meant to play a 5 or anything.
