Possible Debilitating Index Finger Problem?

Sign in to disble this ad
About two months ago, it seemed to happen over night, I lost the ability to tremolo pick.

It seems that when the index finger returns to the string for the attack, it is too curled up to hit the string so nothing happens.

And I noticed a few days ago that when I'm playing random notes using my higher fingers my index seems to go crazy, flipping between extended and curled up figures. Not positive if that's normal or not.

I'm worried my technique may be at fault here because I tend to alternate between my thumb (the low strings) and the index (the mid to high strings) instead of using the conventional technique. This emphasizes using the index finger as a fast primary.

I play progressive metal and the like, so you might be able to see why I need to get tremming again.
