i guess i'm kind of an intermediate to bass, i started 4 months ago but i'd been playing guitar for awhile so it was no huge leap. i'm pretty accurate with slapping, but hell i might as well take advantage of all yer collective wisdom... so what are some of your favorite slapping/funky lines? i'd like to expand my vocabulary a bit

Oooo, Aeroplane's a great tune! Might be a little rough if you haven't been slapping a lot for a while, but you should be ok with practice.

I'd reccomend RHCP - Jungle Man as a good, easy first slapper tune.

Sly and the Family Stone's "I Wanna Thank You" is the easiest slap line to learn. It's also a great way to get yourself into the funk mode.

Brick House by the Commodores. or most things by Bootsy Collins. Tower of Power is good too.

hey jrug do you know the chord progression to "I wanna thank you"?
any help would be great. my band wants to do it for a tribute thing but we can't find a decent transcription. I don't have the time to do it now anyway.

some help?

thanks

If I remember right, the bass line remains the same all throughout the song. I'll give you a ghetto little transcription here.

D EE e de (rest) D EE e d (slightly longer rest)

Rinse and repeat as necessary.

Captial letters represent thumb slaps on the A string and lower case are pops one octave higher. This won't help your band mates too much so they'll have to get their own forums.

Higher ground is a good simple slap line to master by RHCP.
But i must agree that Areoplane is my favorite.
