Practicing on a different bass

So on my ship, a GOOD musical director finally showed up, and told me I should have been playing my Geddy in the shows rather than my Epi EBM. The only good thing about the Epi is the EMG pickups I had installed in it, but the thing plays so sluggishly. The old MD said he liked the Epi better; probably because it's a brighter color and he would buy into something like that. The pickups don't really do much to help the bass, since it's just generally hard to play.

Which brings me to my question: is it a bad idea to think of it as a practice bass? I can keep this one in my cabin out of its bag and in easy reach so I can more readily play it while working on things. The problem I see, is there's no way to get the action on it as low as my Geddy, since the Badass bridge can go lower than a stock Gibson bridge. I just remember hearing about guys using thicker necks to work on stuff so when they get on their gig bass, it's much easier to play. But if I need to dig in even slightly more on the Epi, would that hurt me trying to use a lighter touch on the Geddy?

I don't think it'll hurt you to go back and forth.

I think your hands will subconsciously adjust after a couple songs
